The official government covid-pass scanner required 3 clicks to get from the last scan to scanning a new pass so we looked at how we could speed it up.

Due to the short time frame, we made assumptions based on internal knowledge of the hospitality industry.

This was expected to be used in bars and restaurants that used the OrderPay pay-at-table app.

We saved 3 clicks, bringing the clicks to 0 by keeping the camera open and automatically scanning the QR code,

We then displayed the key information straight away below the scanner for a short period of time or until a new QR code is scanned.

Highlight age vs. licensing rules

Many venues that OrderPay services are licensed venues like pubs and bars.

As the covid-pass included a date of birth in the QR code we were also able to quickly and clearly present the age of the customer.

We allowed the sites in a setting to turn this on as well as entering their age requirements which would show if the date of birth was valid for entry or not.

I collaborated with Sarah on a mobile application that would scan and verify COVID vaccination passes. Sarah designed a clean and intuitive UI/UX for the app. The associated Figma designs were comprehensive and easy to follow as a developer. All the various screens of the application were well-documented; there were helpful annotations throughout the designs to aid in understanding how each screen should function, explaining the various states of controls, what tooltips should appear, etc… This made it extremely easy to implement the designs in code.

During our collaboration, Sarah was communicative and quick to respond to any queries I had. She was also receptive to any feedback/suggestions stakeholders or myself had. Overall, it was a pleasure working with Sarah during this project and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a brilliant Product Designer!
